Average BMI class expenditure by age

Lifetime costs of overweight and obesity in Italy

Our findings show that compared to normo-weight patients, the obese generate the largest cost differential over the entire life cycle, while the overweight spends less than the normo-weight, mainly because of savings generated starting from early middle age onward

Average healthcare outpatient expenditure by BMI classes

Outpatient healthcare costs associated with overweight and obesity in Italy

Data relative to 991,917 adults were analyzed. Annual per capita expenditure rose from 252.2 Euro among individuals with normal weight to 752.9 Euro among those with class 3 obesity

Anxiolytic's purchases, mobility and mortality

Psychotropic drug purchases during the COVID-19 pandemic in Italy and their relationship with mobility restrictions

We study the interplay between mobility, measured with anonymized mobile phone data, and mental health and report no significant effect of mobility restrictions on antidepressants and anxiolytics purchases in 2020.

Health status and the Great Recession. Evidence from electronic health records

Our results document that harsh economic downturns have a negative long-lasting effect on cardiovascular disease and a temporary effect on depression

Gains in mean life-years from older-age prevalence reduction among the prevalent and incidence reduction among the incident

The Returns to Preventing Chronic Disease in Europe and the United States

Using the Future Elderly Model, we simulate longevity and disability over the remaining lifetime for cohorts of older Europeans and Americans. We see that investment in both treatment and prevention for chronic conditions couls lead to major gains in Life Expectancy

LongITools: Dynamic longitudinal exposome trajectories in cardiovascular and metabolic noncommunicable diseases

The surge in cardiovascular and metabolic noncommunicable diseases coincides with marked lifestyle and environmental transformations, underscoring the need to investigate the complex environmental contributors to these disorders.

The future of the elderly population health status: Filling a knowledge gap

We find that the prevalence of main chronic conditions in Europe is catching‐up with the United States and significant heterogeneity in the evolution of gender and educational gradients

xsmle postestimation: predicted FE

Spatial panel-data models using Stata

xsmle allows for a wide set of fixed- and random-effects spatial models for balanced panel data. Unbalanced panels can be handled using its full compatibility with the mi suite of commands. Spatial weight matrices can be Stata matrices and spmat objects

Excess body weight increases the burden of age-associated chronic diseases and their associated health care expenditures

In this very large study, 557,145 men and women older than 18 years were analyzed to assess the association between aging, excessive adiposity and health costs

Total spillovers effect partition

Measuring spatial effects in the presence of institutional constraints: The case of Italian Local Health Authority expenditure

We partition the standard contiguity matrix in two matrices (within and between), disentangling the overall spatial effect and deriving testable implications. In the application we study expenditures from the Italian Local Health Authority using spatial panel
